CONCACAF U-20 Championship: Haiti and its heavy defeat against Mexico

By: Peterson Pierre-Louis

Facing the Mexicans, the Haitian U20 team started the last phase of the World Cup qualifiers very badly with a heavy 4-0 defeat.

This Sunday, July 21, 2024, the Haitian selection made its debut against Mexico, a rather bad start for the little Grenadiers. Under the direction of coach Angelo Jean-Baptiste, despite two weeks of training on Mexican soil, his protégés showed nothing against the local team.

At the very beginning of the match, in the 11th minute; the little Grenadiers were already with their backs to the wall following the Mexicans’ opening goal by Yae Padilla. Without any reaction to make the opposing defense doubt, Haiti entered the locker room with the minimum defeat (1-0) despite the Mexicans’ assaults.

Hoping for an improvement in the second period but tactically unrecognizable, Angelo Jean-Baptiste’s gang experienced the worst in the second period by conceding 3 other goals. Heriberto Jurado 72′ (2-0), Xavier Biscaysaku 79′ (3-0), while he was a substitute and Amaury Morales 90+6′ (4-0). The Haitian selection was easily corrected by the Mexicans.

Is there any chance that Angelo Jean-Baptiste and his gang can turn things around in the next two games?
_6 points to negotiate well against Panama and Guatemala. But the Haitian manager will be there in order to upgrade his group before these two crucial matches?
