The Haitian tourism sector recorded, in 2022, a drop of 7% compared to the previous year according to an IHSI report. A mediocre performance explained by the degrading situation at the security, social and political level.
The number of tourists who visited the country increased from 148,355 in 2021 to 37,096 in 2022, according to the Haitian Institute of Statistics and Informatics (IHSI). These figures represent a significant drop compared to the year 2015 during which 500,000 tourists set foot on Haitian soil.
Furthermore, our neighbor the Dominican Republic has been able to take full advantage of its tourism sector. According to the Dominican Minister of Tourism, David Collado Morales, the country received 4,904,162 tourists and 755,818 day trippers from January to August 2022.
Remember that Haiti was placed 48th most beautiful country in the world, thanks to its beaches, waterfalls and mountains, ahead of Sweden, Panama and 140 other countries in this ranking.
