P-au-P, July 3, 2024 [AlterPresse] — Haitian Prime Minister Garry Conille, on an official visit to the United States since Friday, June 28, 2024, is seeking stronger support for Haiti, according to information gathered by the online agency AlterPresse.
For the time being, Conille’s trip is marked by a commitment from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to make $40 million available to Haiti for the year 2024.
On Tuesday, July 2, 2024, he discussed with the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Uruguayan Luis Almagro, the challenges related to security, the rule of law and the reform of the Constitution until the next elections.
Conille expressed his appreciation for the exchanges and the clear commitment of the OAS, in support of the transition and the efforts around the government’s priorities.
He also had a working meeting with the United States Department of State, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Inter-American Foundation, around the contextualization of the support of the American government in matters of security and development aid with the priorities of the transition.
The head of the Haitian government was welcomed, on July 1, 2024, at the headquarters of the IDB, by the vice president for sectors and knowledge, Ana María Ibáñez and the executive advisor to the president of the IDB, Amanda Glassman.
“We are very committed to supporting Haiti and we will continue to work with the authorities to improve the lives of the Haitian people,” the IDB reiterated.
For his part, Garry Conille thanked the IDB for its commitment to Haiti and the provision of 40 million dollars to the country for the year 2024.
He plans to review the transition team’s portfolio to align it with new priorities, before the country holds its next elections.
The head of government also plans to co-organize with other partners a major meeting to mobilize funding for Haiti with the participation of the private sector.

In-depth discussions took place with the World Bank Group on the major challenges of the transition and the urgency of reviewing the portfolio of ongoing projects.
Discussions also focused on the Country Partnership Framework and the preparation of the rapid assessment of the impact of the crisis with a view to mobilizing additional resources better adapted to the current situation in Haiti.
