Argentina won comfortably against a Peruvian team that was losing momentum. A match dominated from start to finish by the Albiceleste, despite a goalless first half. A look back at a performance controlled by Lionel Scaloni’s men.

The Argentinian national team, reorganized for this match, showed its superiority from the kick-off. With the exception of Emiliano Martinez and Angel Di Maria, present as key elements, coach Lionel Scaloni had fielded a largely overhauled formation. With almost perfect ball possession, Argentina multiplied dangerous chances without managing to materialize in the first 45 minutes.

Argentina’s domination continued in the second half. It was not until the 47th minute that Lautaro Martinez opened the scoring, thanks to a magnificent pass from Angel Di Maria. This opening score freed the Albiceleste, who continued to exert constant pressure on an overwhelmed Peruvian team. The statistics speak for themselves: Peru has not managed to string together more than 20 consecutive passes, demonstrating its difficulty in competing with Argentina.

In the 83rd minute, Argentina won a penalty following a cross from Gonzalo Montiel, but Leandro Paredes missed the opportunity to score, however giving Lautaro Martinez the opportunity to double the lead in the 87th minute. This second goal, despite a slight controversy over a possible foul by Martinez, was validated, sealing the Argentine victory with a score of 2-0.

This victory confirms Argentina in its status as favorite of the competition. The Albiceleste showed impressive mastery and a formidable style of play, which made them a team to fear for all their opponents. Lionel Scaloni’s men continue to live up to their reputation, and this performance against Peru only strengthens their position as serious title contenders.
