Former senator Willot Joseph, cited in the case of alleged corruption within the National Equipment Center (CNE), went this Monday, May 20, 2024 to the investigating office, in response to the summons issued by the judge instructor Merlan Bélabre.
Accompanied by his lawyer, Willot Joseph was questioned by the magistrate as a witness as part of the investigation into allegations of misappropriation of public funds and corruption within the CNE.
According to available information, following his interview with the judge, the former parliamentarian strongly contested any involvement in these accusations, describing the situation as “political persecution”.
He also refuted allegations that he held equipment belonging to the CNE, saying that the equipment mentioned in the investigation report was defective and was never collected by the CNE for repair in Port-au-Prince.
The investigation report from the Anti-Corruption Unit (ULCC) mentions two pieces of equipment, a loader and a caterpillar, that the former senator is said to have in his possession.
Furthermore, Willot Joseph is also accused of having produced a false certificate of declaration of assets, both upon his entry and at the end of his parliamentary mandate, as proof of his compliance with this legal obligation, according to a report dated 15 November 2023.
On the basis of these elements, the ULCC recommended criminal proceedings against the former elected representative of the Central Plateau, for charges including corruption and use of forgery.
Remember that the former senator of the Artibonite department, Gracia Delva, was also questioned by judge Merlan Bélabre on Thursday, May 9, 2024 in the context of the alleged corruption case in the Senate of the Republic.
