The General Directorate of Immigration in the Dominican Republic has informed that it has the power to detain drivers transporting passengers in an irregular situation
In an article published in the Dominican newspaper, Diario Libre, it is reported that the General Directorate of Immigration (DGM) indicated that it had the power to detain drivers and retain all types of vehicles carrying as passengers foreigners in an irregular immigration situation in the Dominican Republic, in accordance with Articles 128 and 129 of 285-04, its paragraphs and the implementing regulations of Decree 631-11.
It is also informed that in collaboration with the Public Prosecutor’s Office and other authorities, after the arrest, the DGM investigates the circumstances in which the foreigner was transported and if it is determined that there was no intention of illegal trafficking of foreigners in an irregular situation, the vehicle is delivered to its owner and the citizen is deported to his country.
It must be said that these details were made a day after motorists from Santiago entered their facilities to protest against the retention of their engines in which they are supposed to transport nationals of that country.
