Dominique Dupuy: The reopening of the Dominican border must apply to all Haitians

In fact, the Chancellor of the Dominican Republic, Roberto Alvarez, mentioned on his X account (formerly Twitter), having informed his Haitian counterpart, Dominique Dupuy, that any request for flights from the Haitian authorities will be authorized, despite the closure of the border. The Dominican Minister of Foreign Affairs made this statement after the Haitian authorities declined the invitation to participate in the inauguration of President Luis Abinader (August 16, 2024).

In response to Roberto Alvarez, the Haitian Minister of Foreign Affairs opposed this bias, arguing that the reopening of the border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic should not be conditioned on negotiations between governments.

According to her, any request for reopening must take into account all Haitian citizens. “The Haitian authorities cannot benefit of a privilege of which the Haitian people do not “I don’t enjoy it,” she suggested.
