Donald Trump evacuated from Pennsylvania rally after explosions
The former president Donald Trumpa Republican candidate in the US election in November, was evacuated from a partisan rally in Pennsylvania after gunfire. AFP journalists saw blood on his right ear.
Trump had just begun his speech when he was taken to the ground by Secret Service agents, who are responsible for protecting presidents and former presidents. Moments later, he stood up and was escorted from the podium to his car, raising his fist in defiance as his supporters cheered. According to the Secret Service, “he was safe,” CNN reports.
John Yeykal, a supporter at the scene, told AFP: “We saw a lot of people throwing themselves to the ground, looking confused. I heard the gunshots, it sounded like something between firecrackers and a small caliber pistol.”
The rally was Trump’s last before the Republican convention where he is to be officially nominated as the Republican Party’s nominee to face Democratic incumbent Joe Biden in November’s election. The White House said President Joe Biden was briefed on the events at Trump’s rally.
