Earl Gray tea is a blend of black tea flavored with bergamot essential oil. The benefits of this tea are linked to black tea leaves which contain a significant amount of healthy compounds.

An excellent source of antioxidants

The black tea, which forms the basis of Earl Gray tea, is an excellent source of plant compounds with antioxidant properties. Antioxidants help fight oxidative stress by neutralizing free radicals (responsible for cellular aging).

Oxidative stress promotes chronic inflammation in the body, a risk factor for cancer and cardiovascular disease.

Black tea is rich in polyphenols such as epigallocatechin gallate, theaflavins and thearubigins. These substances help reduce inflammation in the body and damage caused by oxidative stress. Earl Gray tea also contains polysaccharides, complex carbohydrates that have powerful antioxidant properties.

The bergamot oil contained in Earl Gray tea also provides antioxidants such as limonene and linalool.

A shield against certain serious illnesses

Several studies have shown that people who regularly consume Earl Gray tea have a lower risk of developing certain diseases compared to people who do not drink it.

A study published in 2023, conducted on nearly 2 million people, concluded that women who drink between 1 and 3 cups of black tea per day had a reduced risk of developing ovarian cancer.

But that’s not all, lBlack tea drinkers have a lower risk of developing oral canceraccording to a review of studies published in 2018.

This work suggests that each cup of black tea drunk is associated with a 6.2% reduced risk of oral cancer. This protective effect would be linked to the large quantity of antioxidants present in black tea.

Finally, regular consumption of Earl Gray tea could help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease by regulating blood pressure.

Boosted cognitive functions and physical performance

Black tea contains caffeine, about 47 mg per cup. That’s a little more than half the caffeine in a cup of coffee. Caffeine is known to give energy and improve physical performance.

For example, ingesting between 3 and 6 mg of caffeine per kilogram of body weight helps improve certain aspects of athletic performance such as endurance and strength.

Regular consumption of caffeinated drinks such as Earl Gray tea can also help you feel more energetic and therefore better in your head.

Thus, a review of studies bringing together seven studies and covering more than 400,000 people revealed that the consumption of green or black tea was associated with a significant reduction in the risk of dementia, particularly Alzheimer’s disease.
