Friday June 14, 2024 marked the opening of the European Cup. Germany, host country, takes on Scotland for the first match of the competition

Perfect debut for Toni Kroos and her peers

Germany easily won against Scotland (5-1), for its entry into the running and is already putting pressure on the other opponents in its group, namely Hungary and Switzerland.

Two new records for Naggelsman

After the first match of the competition, German coach Julian Naggelsman became the master of two new records in his career.

At just 36 years and 327 days, Naggelsman became the youngest coach to take charge of a match in the history of the European Cup. This precocious record belonged to the current coach of Uzbekistan, Srecko Katanec (36 years and 333 days), who in 2000 was the manager of Slovenia, for the first match against Yugoslavia (3-3).

It is also for the first time in the history of the European Cup that a coach has fielded a player older than him. Yesterday, Naggelsman, 36, lined up in the German system, the goalkeeper of Bayern Munich, Manuel Neuer who is 38 years old.
