For three years now, the Haitian national football championship has been going through a period of unprecedented crisis, marked by structural instability and governance difficulties. Faced with this situation, FIFA took the initiative to intervene to try to revive the competition and restore confidence in local football.
This Tuesday, November 12, FIFA organized a crucial meeting with first and second division clubs to discuss the measures to be taken and the adjustments to be made. Of the 18 clubs in the first division, only five were present: Don Bosco, Réal Hope, Ouanaminthe FC, Cavaly AS and FICA. The representation was varied, with for example the president of Cavaly in person, although the vice-president noted his absence.
Regarding D2, eight clubs had delegated representatives, like FC Delmas, of which Jean Claude Nexil had appointed Richard Derosier to represent him. The clubs present expressed the wish to read the statutes before the validation meeting scheduled for November 22. However, FIFA recalled that it is responsible for drafting these statutes in accordance with its own rules and international standards, insisting that the ultimate objective is to guarantee transparent governance in accordance with FIFA standards.
This preliminary meeting marks a step towards an essential overhaul of Haitian football, where collaboration between FIFA and the clubs is essential for a return to competitiveness and stability of the championship.
