Deploring the delay in the disbursement of funds, Engineer Reynold Pauyo, Director of the Technical Execution Unit of the Ministry of Finance, said that The remaining work could take 2 years
Port-au-Prince, Monday, August 13, 2018.- As part of the 52nd edition of its weekly program “Les lundis de la Presse”, the Ministry of Communication received this Monday, August 13, 2018 the Director General of the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP), Dr. Lauré Adrien, accompanied for the occasion by Dr. Jessy Colimon, Executive Director of the State University Hospital of Haiti (HUEH) and Dr. Alix Lassègue, Technical Advisor to the MSPP, to speak on the issue of the State University Hospital of Haiti (HUEH), commonly known as “The General Hospital”.
The DG of the MSPP, who was also accompanied by Engineer Reynold Pauyo, Head of the Technical Execution Unit of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), project owner of the HUEH reconstruction project, immediately reported on the difficulties encountered by the HUEH in welcoming patients and providing them with care with the same efficiency during the reconstruction period of this very important hospital in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince.
“Despite the State’s foresight to build community reference hospitals (HCR) to reduce the number of patients at HUEH, the latter prefer to go to HUEH out of habit,” he explained while announcing the upcoming opening of the Delmas 2 community hospital.
After diagnosing the problems related to the functioning of the HUEH, Dr Jessy Colimon, for his part, pleaded for better hospital organization, respect for the dignity and rights of patients, as well as the improvement of the working conditions of health personnel for a better quality of health care service.
Dr Alix Lassègue, for his part, explained that studies were carried out to achieve a real change and a new modern hospital with a new form of governance based, among other things, on reducing hospitalization time, medical permanence, changing the salary scale and medical career and rejuvenating health personnel. “The HUEH was not made to accommodate all patients. In this sense, it will be reserved for difficult diagnosis and complicated cases,” he specified.
Engineer Reynold Pauyo, who spoke on the progress of the reconstruction works of the HUEH, informed that more than 70% of the works have already been completed. Now only the road, mechanical and electrical works remain, according to the Head of the UTE of the MEF, who explained that the new hospital has a pavilion system of 10 buildings.
Currently, the MSPP and the MEF are in talks with construction firms with a view to better accelerating the execution of the works, for the timely delivery of this new hospital structure in order to alleviate the health problems of the Haitian population.
