Former Tallahassee mayoral candidate Whitfield Leland, 44, was apprehended after an armed robbery committed under the disguise of a Dollar Tree employee.
Leland, who came third in the 2022 municipal primaries, allegedly stole a shirt from an employee before robbing the store. After robbing the cash register and ordering the Manager to open the safe, he allegedly fled the scene, leaving a trail of money which allowed the police to locate him.
Currently in custody at the Leon County Detention Center, he faces several charges, with a history of arrests dating back to 1998.
