Bahamian authorities are currently searching for four passengers following the sinking of a ship on the night of Thursday, July 11, 2024.
According to a statement from the Royal Bahamas Police Force released the same day, a vessel carrying eight passengers, en route from Ocean Cay to Eleuthera, encountered difficulties fourteen kilometers north of Morgan Bluff Andros. The vessel began taking on water, causing it to sink.
Local fishermen managed to rescue four adult men, including three Hondurans and one Haitian national, according to initial reports from Bahamian police. However, the other four occupants of the vessel, including the captain, remain missing despite search efforts by the Royal Bahamas Defense Force and the U.S. Coast Guard.
Search and rescue operations are continuing to find the missing persons and identify the victims of this shipwreck.
It should be noted that this event comes as the family of Haitian rapper MechansT, real name Jonathan Wens Desir, is expressing serious concerns. MechansT was recently in the Bahamas for a concert on May 18. Since July 4, his loved ones have lost all contact with him, leading to a call for help launched on Saturday, July 13 through the artist’s social networks.
