France announces the evacuation of more than 170 French nationals and nearly 70 European and third-state nationals from Haiti

In response to the interruption of commercial air links with Port-au-Prince due to gang violence, France took measures to evacuate its nationals as well as those of other nationalities present in Haiti. The Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Ministry of the Armed Forces, has chartered several special flights to allow the most vulnerable people to leave the country in complete safety.

The precarious circumstances forced the French authorities to act quickly. The teams deployed on the ground, notably those from the French embassy in Port-au-Prince and agents from the Crisis and Support Center, facilitated the boarding of more than 170 nationals on French army helicopters. French, as well as nearly 70 European nationals and third-country nationals in vulnerable situations. These people were taken care of by France and joined a National Navy vessel which will transport them to Fort-de-France, thus ensuring their safe return, according to the press release.

The crisis unit of the Crisis and Support Center of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs remains operational to respond to the questions and needs of French nationals present in Haiti. At the same time, the French embassy in Port-au-Prince, according to the press release, maintains its operations and remains fully mobilized to support the French community there.

In the current security context, France advises its nationals against traveling to Haiti. French authorities promise to monitor the situation and take the necessary measures to guarantee the safety of their citizens.
