In an intensely competitive Irish Cup final, Drogheda United triumphed over Derry City 2-0 in a match played in front of 38,723 enthusiastic spectators at the Aviva Stadium. This historic coronation marks Drogheda United’s second title in the competition, following their victory in 2005.

From the kick-off, the Drogheda players showed solid determination, quickly gaining the upper hand over their opponents. Although Derry City had a few chances in the first half, Drogheda’s defense was impenetrable, solidified by an aggressive midfield and clinical attack. The score remained level for much of the first half, but Drogheda eventually opened the scoring. The second goal came in the second half allowing Drogheda United to secure themselves for the rest of the match.

Haitian international Frantzdy Pierrot, starter for this final, showed his class on the field, making multiple calls from deep and providing valuable support to his teammates in attack. After delivering a solid performance, Pierrot was replaced in the 68th minute by Adam Foley, who also made an immediate impact.

This title in the Irish Cup allows Drogheda United to add another success to their record. The club, which had not won a major trophy for almost a decade, is delighted to have returned to the path of success under the leadership of its coach and its players, including Frantzdy Pierrot, who proved his value at the highest level.

Next objective: The Irish D1 play-offs

With this title in hand, Drogheda United now look towards the Promotion/Relegation play-offs of the Irish Premier Division. The club will face Bray Wanderers in a decisive showdown to try to stay in the Premier League. This next challenge will be crucial for the future of the club, which hopes to extend its winning momentum and avoid relegation.

For now, it’s a moment of celebration for Drogheda United, who are enjoying their second Irish Cup trophy and continuing to dream big for the future.
