Violent clashes between members of the Gran Grif gang and the PNH caused the death and gunshot wounds of several people this Monday, July 15, 2024 in Pont-Sondé, in the Artibonite department.
According to available information, the Gran Grif gang opened fire on the Pont-Sondé police station, located on national road number 1, provoking a response from the police forces, who came from several municipalities. The police managed to repel the attackers and secure the police station.
In Carrefour-Paye, near Pont-Sondé, the attackers set fire to several vehicles and attacked public transport drivers and small shopkeepers, according to the information available.
For now, the police have not commented on these violent incidents. These events are part of a context of increased violence, with armed gangs multiplying acts of terror in various regions of Bas-Artibonite for several months.
Let us recall that last May, Justice of the Peace Verto Vertilus was kidnapped by armed individuals on Monday, May 13, 2024 in the commune of Estère, located in the lower part of the Artibonite department. His lifeless body was discovered the next day, Tuesday, May 14, 2024, in wild vegetation at the side of the road, after searches carried out by his family.
