Montreal actress and comedian of Haitian origin Garihanna Jean-Louis was crowned Saturday April 27, 2024, winning the coveted title of Comedian of the Year 2023 during the Culture Evening of the 8th edition of the Gala Dynastie, held at the Théâtre Maisonneuve in Montreal, under the theme “Building your Dynasty”.
The first and only black woman to graduate from the National School of Humor, Garihanna Jean-Louis, quickly conquered the world of humor in Quebec and beyond, thanks to her incisive style, combining her Haitian roots and her Quebec culture.
“Thank you, it’s been 6 years in a row that I’ve been nominated, and 6 years in a row that I’ve been the only woman nominated […] This trophy is not just mine, this trophy belongs to the entire community of people who invested in me,” declared Garihanna Jean-Louis, visibly moved.
Her track record includes numerous prestigious awards, such as Artist of the Year at ZOOFEST in 2022 and at the Prix Gémeaux in 2021, as well as the People’s Choice Award at the Gala Dynastie in 2020. She was also revealed of the year in 2017 and 2018 at the Lol Fest Haiti International Laughter Festival.
Established by the Dynastie Foundation and supported by the TD Bank Group in collaboration with SODEC, the Dynastie Gala aims to highlight and celebrate the achievements of actors in the media, cultural and artistic fields within the black communities of the Quebec. For seven years, this flagship event has honored more than 150 creators and highlighted the talent of more than 700 finalists.
