The organization “Médecins Sans Frontières” accuses Haitian police officers and members of a self-defense group of having executed on Monday November 11, 2024, not far from the University Hospital of Peace, in Delmas 33, at least two ( 2) patients. They committed the crimes during an armed attack orchestrated from Drouillard to Delmas against a medical care ambulance from the institution which was transporting three (3) young people injured by bullets.
THE HAITI FACTOR, November 13, 2024._A team from the organization “Médecins Sans Frontières” rescued on Monday November 11, 2024, three young people apparently injured by bullets in the town of Cité Soleil. These young people were about to be transported to the MSF Hospital in Drouillard.
About a hundred meters from the hospital mentioned above, police officers and members of a vigilance brigade stopped the ambulance on board which were the 3 young people hit by bullets as well as the medical care team of the international NGO.
As a result, the ambulance was forced to transfer the victims to a public hospital, explained Christophe Garnier, head of mission at “Médecins Sans Frontières” in a press release.
After drawing their weapons in the air, the police officers in question accompanied by members of the self-defense group escorted the ambulance to the University Hospital of Peace, in Delmas 33.
When they arrived, they surrounded the ambulance, slashed the tires and sprayed MSF staff inside the vehicle with tear gas to force them out, Christophe Garnier reported.
Add to this, they violently attacked, insulted, threatened to kill and held healthcare workers against their will, MSF laments.
After carrying out the above-mentioned acts, the PNH agents and the armed civilians of the Vigilance Brigade then took the injured patients a short distance, outside the grounds of the University Hospital of Peace, where they executed at least two (2) of the three (3), regrets the NGO.
In reaction, the organization “Médecins Sans Frontières” through its head of mission, Christophe Garnier, said it was outraged by the police attack on an ambulance of the institution followed by the execution of the patients. While condemning the double murder, Christophe Garnier denounced the damage caused by armed groups to the ambulance which can no longer drive.
Shocked by the demonstration of the police officers and members of the self-defense group, MFS calls on the authorities and all stakeholders to enforce the right of access to medical care without discrimination or hindrance. The Organization also urges them to ensure the protection of patients, as well as respect for medical personnel and health structures in the face of increasing violence.
« Our teams and patients need a minimum of security to continue providing medical care. », demanded Christophe Garnier, head of mission at MSF.
