The Haitian Government led by Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé and the Transitional Council chaired by Leslie Voltaire were unable to go, this Monday, November 18, 2024, to the Haitian National Pantheon Museum (MUPANAH) to honor the Heroes of Vertières. The reason: They were prevented by armed bandits who are sowing terror in the Haitian capital, particularly in the area around Champ-de-Mars. To commemorate the 221st anniversary of the Battle of Vertières, the authorities used the new base of the Haitian Army which they inaugurated today in Tabarre.
THE HAITI FACTOR, November 18, 2024._As tradition dictates, the Haitian authorities commemorated on Monday, November 18, 2024, the 221st anniversary of the Battle of Vertières, won on November 18, 1803, by the indigenous army against that of Napoleon Bonaparte.
For many years, successive Governments have abandoned the historic site in Vertières, either due to protests from the population, or due to insecurity on national roads to lay wreaths of flowers in memory of the Heroes of this Battle at the Museum of the Haitian National Pantheon (MUPANAH), at Champ-de-Mars.
However, this year, the Haitian Government and the Presidential Transitional Council (CPT) were unable to go there. The Haitian authorities were challenged by the armed bandits of the “viv ansanm” coalition who control until 80% of the Haitian capital, particularly in the area around Champ-de-Mars.
To save honor, the Transitional Government organized a brief ceremony at the premises of the new base of the Armed Forces of Haiti (FADH) which it inaugurated this November 18 in Tabarre (West) under the name of “Base Vertières “.
The event took place “ With the spirit of the Virtuous Heroes, Haiti will not perish”, in the presence of the President of the Transitional Council, Leslie Voltaire, the Advisor-Presidents Smith Augustin, Edgard Leblanc Fils, Louis Gérald Gilles, the Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé and the Ministers of his Government, the Acting Commander-in-Chief of the FADH, Derby Guerrier as well as the Acting Director General of Police, Rameau Normil, among others.
In his speech, the President of the Transitional Council, Leslie Voltaire, said he saluted the memory of the Heroes of Vertières who had led this Battle for the liberation of Haiti. Mr. Voltaire took advantage of this date to launch an appeal for unity and union with the strong forces of the Nation in order to confront the challenges that hinder the progress of the country.
According to him, the inauguration of the new FADH base is a big step towards the realization of one of the 5 major projects on which the Government and the CPT are focused, namely the “restoration of security” through the country
On this, Leslie Voltaire invited the Soldiers of the Army to follow in the footsteps of the Heroes of Vertières in order to allow the Haitian Nation to rise from its ashes. He announced that in the coming months, approximately 2,500 Soldiers will benefit from additional training in their new Base as part of the Government’s and the CPT’s vision to restore security in Haiti.
In turn, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Haiti, Derby Guerrier, welcomes the inauguration of the new FADH base camp. In addition to the base made available to the Soldiers, he asks the Presidential Transitional Council to provide them with means (materials) in the fight aimed at recovering the territories controlled by armed bandits.
For his part, the Acting Commander-in-Chief of the Haitian National Police, Rameau Normil, suggested that the construction followed by the inauguration of the base in favor of the Army testifies to the desire of the two-headed Executive to restore security in the country.
Also, it should be mentioned that just like last October 17 at the Haitian National Pantheon Museum (MUPANAH), at Champ-de-Mars, the delegations of officials who went to the new Army Base in Tabarre to honor the Heroes of Vertières, left it on tiptoe, due to the automatic weapon detonations heard in the area.
