Several hundred people demonstrated on Monday, July 1st through the streets of the city of Les Cayes to demand the arrest and subsequent imprisonment of the former Government Commissioner of the jurisdiction, Me Ronald Richemond. The demonstrators accuse him of the assassination of Garry Tesse, of land theft (spoliation) and of the illegal arrest of political activists of the opposition, among others. Several complaints have also been filed against him.
THE HAITI FACTOR, July 1, 2024._The former Government Commissioner at the Court of First Instance of Les Cayes, Me Ronald Richemond is in turmoil. Five (5) days after his dismissal as head of the court’s prosecution service, members of the Cayenne population are demanding his arrest followed by his incarceration.
To present their demands to the police and judicial authorities of Les Cayes, several hundred Cayens organized a demonstration for this purpose on Monday, July 1st.
The protesters say they are demanding his arrest for his alleged involvement in the assassination of journalist and political commentator Garry Tesse, who used to denounce his excesses.
They also pointed the finger at the former head of the Les Cayes Public Prosecutor’s Office in cases of theft of residents’ land as well as in the arrest deemed illegal of several political activists from the Les Cayes opposition.
The Cayen protesters took advantage of their street movement to file several complaints with the judicial authorities of Cayes against Me Ronald Richemond, asking them to prohibit him from leaving the country under any pretext.
Furthermore, individuals who are said to be supporters of Me Ronald Richemond are accused of locking the doors of the Les Cayes Public Prosecutor’s Office on the night of Sunday June 30 to Monday July 1, 2024.
An initiative which prevented the new acting Government Commissioner for the jurisdiction, Mr James Jean-Louis, as well as the employees of the institution from returning to their offices.
It was then necessary for a Justice of the Peace to come and take stock of the scene and record the facts.
