A week after the regional meeting of the Departmental Directors of Education (DDE) of the Grand Nord, Augustin Antoinde, Minister of National Education, accompanied by the Head of the Project Coordination Unit, Renan Michel, Inspector General of the Director of the National Office of State Examinations, Jean Wilnor Pierre, Head of the DDE Coordination Unit and Dr. Evans Turenne, member of his cabinet, met with the DDEs of the Grand Sud during a workshop organized this week in the city of Les Cayes.
The heads of the DDEs of Nippes, the South, the South-East and Grand-Anse, accompanied by their deputies and other executives, took part in this day of discussions during which Minister Augustin ANTOINE presented his vision of the Haitian school to them.
According to Minister Antoine, there is an urgent need to rethink this school, which must necessarily meet the aspirations of young people in particular and the needs of society in general, while taking into account national challenges and regional and international opportunities. “This school must demonstrate its usefulness by promoting the socio-economic development project of the new Haiti and work to consolidate civic values as founding elements of the Republic. […] It is important to restore the authority of the school… »
In this perspective, the Minister instructed the DDEs to work, without delay, on the development of specifications that will reflect the state of the school in their respective department, more precisely of the Haitian public school caught in the mesh of a whole series of structural difficulties with negative impacts on the quality of education provided in classrooms, the performance of teachers and also the performance of learners.
As for the organization of state examinations, the instructions of Minister Augustin Antoine are clear and precise. The DDEs are asked to redouble their efforts in order to facilitate the success of the process of passing official tests. They must be creative in the planning and execution of their budget, rigorous in the choice of examination centers, and responsible in the supervision of the key stages of this major operation which commits the government of the Republic.
