Haiti – FAd’H: The Minister of Defense discusses military training with Taiwan

Thursday, July 4, 2024, after having received the previous day the Ambassador of the United States to Haiti, Dennis B. Hankins on bilateral defense cooperation where the training of Haitian military personnel was discussed, the first time since the demobilization of the FAd’H in 1994 that the United States has raised the possibility of cooperation with the Haitian army; Jean Marc Berthier Antoine, the Minister of Defense, met with Wen-Jiann Ku, the Ambassador of Taiwan (Republic of China)
The discussions covered several crucial topics, including the training of Haitian military personnel and the strengthening of Haitian-Taiwanese cooperation in the areas of defense.
Ambassador Wen-Jiann Ku, congratulated the Ministry of Defense, in particular the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAd’H), for having recently demonstrated their capacity to contribute to the restoration of peace and security in Haiti. He highlighted the remarkable efforts made by the Haitian military on the ground, illustrating their commitment and determination.
The two men agreed to explore new opportunities to deepen this cooperation. In addition, the Ambassador promised to support the Ministry in the area of military personal protective equipment.
Minister Antoine renewed the Government’s commitment to work closely with Taiwan to strengthen the capabilities of the FAd’H in order to ensure enhanced security for Haiti. “The discussions focused on military training and defense cooperation. I reiterated the commitment of the Government of Haiti to strengthen the capabilities of the FAd’H and to deepen ties with Taiwan.”
“Taiwan has been the first partner of the Haitian Armed Forces (FAd’H) since their remobilization in 2017. We reaffirm our commitment to continue and strengthen our cooperation in order to restore order in society and establish the foundations for national development,” said the Ambassador.
