Five civil society organizations have sent an open letter to the Prime Minister, outlining several key demands for justice and security in Haiti. In the letter, they emphasize the importance of addressing persistent problems of violence, corruption, and human rights violations.
The organizations are demanding justice and reparations for all victims of violence and abuse committed between 2018 and 2024. They insist on the need to recognize and compensate the suffering endured by the affected populations.
Zero amnesty for bandits
A key point of their demand is to ensure that no amnesty is granted to criminals and bandits responsible for the unrest and violence. The signatories believe that impunity cannot be tolerated if confidence in institutions is to be restored.
The organizations also call for zero tolerance for MMAS (Ministry of Magic, Administration and Security) agents involved in human rights violations. They stress that these agents must be held accountable for their actions in order to prevent such abuses from happening again.
Fight against corruption and financial crime
The fight against corruption and financial crime is one of the priorities of the letter. The organizations are calling for concrete measures to eradicate these practices that undermine the economy and citizens’ trust in their leaders.
Elections after security restored
Finally, the signatories insist that elections should only be held once security has been fully restored in the country. They believe that free and fair elections cannot take place in a climate of insecurity.
The organizations hope that the Prime Minister will take these requests into consideration and act accordingly to restore justice and security in Haiti.
