In Mariani, armed gangs know no respite. This Saturday January 6, 2024 at least five people who were on board a canoe were killed by Boutba’s armed men, several others kidnapped.
According to local media, the five people killed were trying to avoid national road number 2. For some time, the sea route has been a “safe option” for those traveling to the deep south without passing through Mariani.
During the same day of Saturday January 6, 2024, the thugs kidnapped several young girls. Despite attempts by law enforcement to regain control of Mariani, Boutba’s gang demonstrates superior power.
