Jacmel (Haiti), July 18, 2024 [AlterPresse] — “Education, participation and responsibility” was the theme of the first edition of a university symposium, held from Thursday July 4 to Saturday July 6, 2024, in Jacmel (South-East of Haiti), under the auspices of the University (Roman Catholic) Notre-Dame d’Haïti (Undh)
“From these interventions, it emerges the need to establish an education that promotes national identity, critical thinking, social justice and a positive attitude towards digital technology, in order to hope for a drastic change in the Haitian reality, which is plagued by crises of all kinds,” according to a document sent to the online agency AlterPresse.
Objective pursued with the university symposium of July 2024 in Jacmel: to encourage young students to reflect on the current context of Haiti (marked by major political, economic, natural, cultural, technological and environmental upheavals) and to become actively involved in the efforts aimed at profoundly transforming the country.
More than 800 people advocated an adapted pedagogy, an education model capable of encouraging women and men to engage in national development tasks.
It is therefore appropriate to highlight national identity values in the reflections and actions that will make it possible to address the multidimensional crisis in Haiti, a crisis exacerbated by the passivity of citizens and the inaction of economic and intellectual elites with regard to the decline in the living conditions of the population.
Considering the climate emergencies, which threaten living beings and their natural habitat, environmental protection should be a fundamental axis in public and private interventions, on a national scale.
In this sense, it is important to encourage the promotion of responsible behaviors that do not pose threats to nature, such as recycling, education in citizenship and clear policies to prevent environmental problems.
Participants in the university symposium in early July 2024 in Jacmel stressed civic responsibility in the process of change, to be implemented for the benefit of communities.
To combat all forms of corruption, which plague state and private structures, it is important to practice transparency and accountability in all management processes in Haiti. [mff rc apr 18/07/2024 10:00]
