P-to-P, February 11, 2024 [AlterPresse] — The Société du Rhum Barbancourt SA declares that it is forced to suspend its public activities, after the fire of several cane fields totaling 8 hectares, during armed clashes which broke out for several days between rival gangs, in the plain of Cul-de-Sac, in the areas of Terre noire and Blanchard, in the commune of Cité Soleil (north of the capital, Port-au-Prince), in a note dated Sunday February 11, 2024, of which the online agency AlterPresse.
These armed conflicts continued on Saturday February 10, 2024 in part of the Plaine du Cul-de-sac and in the commune of Cité Soleil, in the areas of Terre Noire and Blanchard around the enclosure of the Barbancourt distillery.

It claims to have announced, as a precaution, the suspension of its public activities for the benefit of neighboring communities, including, among others, the distribution of free treated water, free medical care center, use of playgrounds, football fields and of basketball.
