Haitian professors Josué Mérilien and Camille Charlmers were invited by the Cuban ambassador to Haiti to represent Haiti at the 32e edition of the Havana International Book Fair which is held from February 15 to 25, 2024 in the Cuban capital.

The two professors will present, during this book event in Cuba which highlights the importance of reading in the formation of conscience and critical thinking among citizens, their co-written work dealing with the current situation in Haiti, entitled “Haiti, the urgency of active international solidarity”.

According to the coordinator of the National Union of Haitian Normaliens (UNNOH), the work of which he is co-author lays bare the current situation in Haiti, indexing the national and international actors who have contributed to the deterioration of the situation from the country. “It also translates the testimony of Haiti’s false friends on an international scale,” continues Mérilien.

Furthermore, the trade unionist maintains, through his work with Camille Chalmers, that the international contributed to the creation of gangs which terrorize the Haitian people, creating the degrading situation which he uses as a pretext to send a military force into the country .

According to Mérilien, the work offers a way out of the crisis. “To achieve this, we must get away from the interference of the imperialists. But it is up to Haitians to decide the path to follow,” maintains the trade unionist who also believes that in the name of international solidarity, countries have a duty to help Haiti get out of this situation.

Note that writers from all over are taking part in the 32e edition of the Havana International Book Fair, which takes place in Cuba from February 15 to 25, 2024.
