The resigning Government extended by one month, until May 3, 2024, the state of emergency decreed throughout the West department in an attempt to restore order there in the face of the violence of gangs. In addition to the state of emergency, the interim Prime Minister, Michel Patrick Boisvert, brought forward the curfew established in this territory by one week. In the meantime, the bandits continue to reduce the Capital to ashes.

THE HAITI FACTOR, March 3, 2024._New extension of the state of security emergency that the resigned Government had decreed and the curfew established in the West Department in order to thwart the gangs who defy it.

In Communiqué No. 11 published Wednesday evening, the resigning Government said it was extending the state of emergency for a period of one month, from Thursday April 4 (4) to Wednesday May 3 (3), 2024.

As for the curfew, it is renewed for a period of one week, i.e. from Wednesday April 3 to Wednesday April 10, 2024, between 7 p.m. (7 a.m.) and 6 a.m. (6 a.m.).

These provisions adopted by the Government with a view to restoring order and taking appropriate measures to regain control of the situation, do not apply to law enforcement officers on duty, firefighters, ambulance drivers, duly identified health personnel and journalists, we read in the said press release signed by Michel Patrick Boisvert

During the period of the State of Emergency, all demonstrations on public roads are prohibited, day or night, in the West department, the press release said.

To this end, the police were ordered to use all legal means at their disposal to enforce the curfew and apprehend all offenders, informed the Interim Prime Minister, Michel Patrick Boisvert.

If the resigning Government makes a state of emergency and a curfew its “fatal” weapon to combat the violence established by armed gangs in Port-au-Prince, the latter, for their part, continue to put the fire in the Capital and fire shots in the direction of the National Palace.
