The country, particularly the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince, is bogged down in a vicious cycle of violence to the point that the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, in a report made public during the last week of March, considered the state of the country “cataclysmic”. With the aim of adopting a space of peace, at the initiative of various organizations, young people and women from the difficult neighborhoods of Cité Soleil, rue Saint Martin and de la Saline launched, on Saturday March 30, 2024, the festival as the root of reconciliation called “Memwa pou Lapè”.
THE HAITI FACTOR, March 30, 2024._It is the Henfrasa site located in Delmas 33 which hosted the festival which highlights dozens of young people, women and other residents of difficult neighborhoods prey to the blind violence of armed gangs controlling 80% of the area metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince on stage in cultural performances.
Dance, art, music and various other cultural tools will be performed at the end of the Memwa pou La Pè festival during the day of Saturday March 30 and Sunday March 31, 2024.
Nègès Mawon and Concern WolrdWide guided young people and women from the Saint Martin, Cité Soleil and La Saline neighborhoods to the construction of this collective memory by activating the leadership parameters of the aforementioned categories.
Note that the extent of armed violence is no longer in doubt in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince. From January to March 2024, more than 1,554 people were killed by bandits.
