Haiti – USA: Conille spoke with Jon Finer, Deputy National Security Advisor

On Monday afternoon, July 1, 2024, as part of his official trip to the United States, Prime Minister Garry Conille spoke for nearly an hour with Jon Finer, the Biden administration’s Deputy National Security Advisor.
Finer reiterated the United States’ unwavering support for the Haitian people, who have suffered for too long at the hands of gangs, with nearly 5 million people now in need of emergency food assistance.
Finer and Conille discussed the initial deployment of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMSS), its operation, its reinforcement needs and U.S. support. The Haitian elections were also discussed.
Finer reaffirmed U.S. support for building strong accountability and oversight mechanisms into the mission. The two men committed to continued close cooperation to support improved security, economic growth, and democratic governance in Haiti.
