Bandits from “Viv ansanm” kidnapped the priest of the Saint-Jean Baptiste parish, Father Emmanuel Saintéliat, on Monday morning. The head of the Communication Service of the Archdiocese of Port-au-Prince, Marc-Henry Siméon, reported that the armed men entered the presbytery to kidnap the priest. For the time being, the hostage is being held in a place of sequestration at the southern entrance to Port-au-Prince, in the controlled homes of the outlaws.
The kidnappers have established contact with the hierarchy of the Catholic Church in Haiti to demand a large ransom. In addition, the captive’s health continues to deteriorate, deplores Father Siméon, who confirms having communicated with the hostage, who is visibly dejected by the conditions of confinement deemed degrading.
Despite the recent events in Gressier, which forced hundreds of families from their homes, the priest of the Saint-Jean Baptiste parish, Emmanuel Saintéliat, remained attached to his community, recalls the head of communications for the Archdiocese of Port-au-Prince, priest Marc-Henry Siméon. The latter underlines the unwavering commitment shown by the head of this parish to maintain harmony among the Catholic people tested by daily security concerns.
