P-au-P, July 2, 2024 [AlterPresse] — A police substation was set on fire in Carrefour on the southern outskirts of the capital, shortly after a forceful police intervention on the afternoon of July 1, 2024, in Gressieraround thirty km further south, notes AlterPresse.
Traces of smoke are noticed on the facade of the Saint-Charles police substation, a building abandoned by the police since March-April 2024, under pressure from bandits, who have increased their atrocities in the area.
Since that time, no police presence has been noted in the police station, called “Omega”, attacked by the armed bandits, nor in the police sub-station called “Saint-Charles”, partially set on fire in the last 24 hours.
It is not known whether the gangs acted in retaliation following the intervention of a joint force of police from the South, South-East and Nippes to chase away the bandits, who had occupied the police station in Gressier since Sunday, June 30, 2024.
The armed gangs had started to demolish the building when they were surprised by the police, who did not specify whether any bandits were killed.
On the police side, there were no injuries, according to information provided by the police institution.

Attempt to demystify the Multinational Security Support Mission?
“The recent offensives by armed gangs, after the Kenyan police officers to begin deployment on Tuesday, June 25, 2024are part of a logic of “demystification” of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMAS) “, opines security specialist James Boyard on his X account.
“In the absence of a coordination and guidance structure based around the National Security Council (NSC) and an operational strategy, all this was predictable,” Boyard emphasizes.
Information obtained by AlterPresse from an official source suggests that the Presidential Transitional Council (CPT) is activating steps with a view to setting up the CNS shortly.
Work is also underway to harmonize the modes of intervention of the police, the Haitian army and the Kenyan forces, the transitional government said.
The violence south of the capital came after changes in police leadership.
Two new departmental directors were installed on Friday, June 28, 2024, in the West, including the metropolitan area and areas such as Gressier.
There is also a new commander at the head of the Haitian National Police Intervention Group (Gipnh/Swat).
These provisions come into effect a few days after the installation, on Friday June 21, 2024, of Rameau Normil as interim director general of the police institution. [apr 02/07/2024 15:00]
