Haitian Foreign Minister Dominique Dupuy strengthens cooperation with Brazil to address security crisis in Haiti
Haiti’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dominique Dupuybegan a series of crucial meetings with Brazilian authorities in Brasilia this Wednesday, with the aim of strengthening bilateral cooperation in the context of an unprecedented security crisis in Haiti.
During these discussions, Dominique Dupuy met with Brazilian Minister of Justice Ricardo Lewandowski to discuss the security challenges facing Haiti. This meeting marks an important step in the Haitian government’s efforts to strengthen its regional partnerships, particularly with Brazil, a key security ally.
Just days after mobilizing the diplomatic corps accredited to Haiti in the northern metropolis, the Haitian Chancellor left the country on Tuesday, August 28 to begin this strategic mission in Brazil. Her goal: to obtain increased support from Brazilian authorities to strengthen the capacities of Haitian law enforcement.
During these discussions, Minister Dupuy, in collaboration with her Brazilian Defense counterpart, José Múcio, obtained concrete commitments. Emergency steps were taken to provide immediate support to Haitian law enforcement. Furthermore, Dominique Dupuy announced via the X platform that 400 Haitian police officers will benefit from specialized training in several centers in Brazil, a significant strengthening of skills that should contribute to stabilizing the security situation in Haiti.
These initiatives are part of a broader strategy aimed not only at restoring order in Haiti, but also at developing stronger international cooperation to address the crises that threaten the country.
According to a statement published on the website of the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dominique Dupuy’s visit will last two days in Brasilia, on August 28 and 29, and will include meetings with Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira and other senior Brazilian officials. The minister will then participate in the Conference on the African Diaspora in the Americas, in Salvador, on August 30 and 31, where she will continue her efforts to strengthen diplomatic ties.
Brazil, which has a Haitian community of nearly 160,000 people, plays a central role in development cooperation in Haiti. Its projects touch on crucial areas such as health, vocational training and public security, thus confirming the importance of this partnership for the future of the country.
This mission of Dominique Dupuy to Brazil, accompanied by his chief of staff, Ricarson DORCÉ, is proving to be strategic for Haiti, which continues to seek effective solutions to the security crisis while consolidating its regional alliances.
