The Presidential Transitional Council has declined the invitation to take part in the inauguration of President Luis Abinader, scheduled for August 16, 2024, as he prepares to begin his second term in the Dominican Republic..
This decision, relayed this Tuesday by the Dominican media El Caribe, marks a new stage in diplomatic relations between the two nations. The Presidential Transitional Council has indeed chosen not to go to the Dominican Republic for this solemn event.
This refusal comes in a context where the airspace between the two countries remains closed, thus complicating the presence of a Haitian delegation. According to information from the Dominican press, the representatives of the Council would be forced to make a long and complex journey, requiring an initial flight to Miami, in the United States, before returning to the island to reach Santo Domingo.
Sources also indicate that the Haitian Prime Minister also declined the invitation. However, neither the Transitional Presidential Council nor the Prime Minister have, to date, issued an official statement regarding this decision.
