The Haitian National Police (PNH) announced on Monday that it had regained control of the Port-au-Prince General Hospital, marking a significant step forward in the fight against insecurity in Haiti. During a joint press conference, the director of the police, Normil Rameau, and the commanders of the international security mission confirmed this victory.
The HNP elite forces carried out the operation yesterday, restoring order to the crucial facility. Last April, armed bandits took control of the hospital, using it as a base to clash with the police, severely disrupting medical services and endangering the lives of patients and staff.
The Kenyan commander of the security mission reiterated the willingness to work closely with Haitian and international authorities to restore peace. Since June 25, the first 200 officers of this mission, led by Kenya, have been patrolling the streets of Port-au-Prince and have taken control of the headquarters of the Ministry of Interior.
