When he learned that he had won the 2024 IVLP Impact Award, Pedro felt an immense emotion, thanking God and remembering the challenges he had overcome. “Glory to God was my first sentence. I am moved, excited. I shed tears because I know my journey, my career, my struggles. I have been humiliated, neglected, boycotted, but God had his plan,” he confided. He also expressed his pride as a Haitian and Petit-Goâvien, considering this victory as a reward for his country.
Pedro Cedme’s project, called PCSE (Projet Communautaire Sportif Ecolier), aims to use sports as a tool for civic education and the fight against juvenile delinquency in Petit-Goâve. “This project is designed for my hometown where schoolchildren have almost no healthy and educational activities. I want to intervene in my community, to get involved in the training of young people,” Pedro explained.
Looking to the future, Pedro aspires to continue his commitment to young people. He wants to build a sports center in the South and a talent development school. “My main goal is to accompany young people, to be an instrument that can facilitate the disappearance of delinquency. With God, sport, I will achieve it,” he said.
Pedro Cedme also has a message for young people and leaders: “I am a living example of perseverance, courage, personality and resistance. No matter what your dream is, I invite you to work tirelessly until you can make an impact in your community.”
The U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince congratulated Pedro Cedme on its social media, highlighting his remarkable work in restoring strong civic foundations within the community through social and sports initiatives.
