P-au-P, 08 from 2024 [AlterPresse] — Four passengers were shot and killed and several others injured, during a shooting on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 7, 2024, around Martissant (southern outskirts of Port-au-Prince under the control of armed gangs since June 1, 2021against a minibus providing the Carrefour/Port-au-Prince route, confirms to the AlterPresse/AlterRadio platform, the president of the Association of Owners and Drivers of Haiti (Apch), Méhu Changeux.

The armed attack on this public transport vehicle was allegedly orchestrated by an armored tank, according to the Apch version, which states that it does not know if the armored vehicle was occupied by agents of the Haitian National Police (Pnh) or bandits.

Contacted by AlterPresse/AlterRadio, the spokesperson for the Pnh, Garry Desrosiers, is not yet able to provide an official version of what happened on the afternoon of May 7, 2024 in Martissant.

This is not the first time that passengers have been victims of shootings and armed attacks in Martissant, notes Apch.

Martissant is still under the control, since June 1, 2021, of armed gangs who have installed a criminal toll post there (demanding payment of rights of way for public transport).

On Monday July 4, 2022, several passengers on board a bus were injured, during armed clashes involving armed gang members, at the southern entrance to the capital, Port-au-Prince.

On Friday February 25, 2022, one death and several injuries were recorded in an armed attack in Martissant against a bus.

At least 3 people dead and a dozen others seriously injured, including a university professorwere recorded on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, during a new attack by armed bandits in the Martissant district, on the southern outskirts of the capital, Port-au-Prince.

These people, gunshot victims on board a bus, which was carrying 38 passengers, were taken to Diquini hospital.
