Prime Minister Garry Conille visited on Thursday, August 1, 2024, the electrical installations of “E-Power SA”, in the Commune of Cité Soleil (West). During his visit, the Head of Government requested the company’s support in order to improve access to electricity for all Haitians.
THE HAITI FACTOR, August 1, 2024._The Haitian government seems to want to resolve the blackout in which Haiti, particularly Port-au-Prince, the capital, has been floundering for ages. It is with this in mind that Prime Minister Garry Conille visited “E-Power SA”, an electric power production company located in Cité Soleil.
During his visit, the Head of Government met with the institution’s officials. At the outset, he said he recognized that the electricity problem in Haiti has several dimensions. To stop it, the Prime Minister believes that it is important to have discussions focused on the future with a partner like “E-Power” in order to think together to say here is where we are and how we are going to transition.
« For me it is essential, because otherwise, for the vast majority of Haiti, E-Power staying or not staying does not change much. There is a reflection that we should have together on the vision of the future, on a much better collaboration with the private and public sectors on the resolution of a chronic problem. ” said the tenant of the Prime Minister’s office.
Thus, Prime Minister Garry Conille suggested that the purpose or common objective of this requested collaboration must be “to improve access to electricity for all Haitians.
« And, obviously for me in this objective, E-Power also undoubtedly has a role to play in contributing and helping the Government, the State to transition towards renewable energies….There is a common objective that we must give ourselves in the short term, the 18 months of this transition period to see what we can do together to define this common vision”concluded Prime Minister Garry Conille.
The promises of successive governments to improve the quality of electricity service to be offered to all Haitian citizens are not new. Moreover, former President Jovenel Moïse, in his election campaign promises, had also promised to electrify the country 24 hours a day, in just 24 months.
