In a recent report made public, the National Network for the Defense of Human Rights (Rnddh) revealed that, to travel to the southern peninsula of Haiti, automobile drivers must pass through at least five toll booths.
A first post was established by the armed gangs at Ruelle Alert, a few steps from the Port-au-Prince cemetery. Another is in Martissant, another in Fontamara. In addition, in Paloma (Carrefour) a fourth post is installed. The fifth is located in Mariana, territory controlled by the boss “Bout Ba”. Across all these posts, drivers are forced to pay large sums of money to cross.
In addition, according to the Rnddh, similar posts are illegally installed at the exit of the Varreux terminal, at La Saline and at Carrefour Drouillard. On national road #1, there is a post at Titanyen and another located between Saint-Marc and Gonaïves.
The bandits do not stop there, on the national #3 also, a post is installed at Onaville 12. As for the national #8, there is a post near Calvaire, in Croix-des-bouquets . And on national #5, there is another station between Gros-Morne and Port-de-Paix.
In total, the human rights organization managed to count at least thirteen posts installed on the roads by criminal gangs with the aim of ransoming members of the population.
