Intense heat is expected to hit Port-au-Prince, according to forecasts from the Haiti Hydrometeorological Unit (UHM) which sets the maximum temperature bar at 36 degrees Celsius in the Haitian capital.
Residents of Port-au-Prince will have a “strong sensation of heat,” warns the Haitian weather service, which is taking the opportunity to provide advice to citizens to help them cope with the heat wave.
“Stay hydrated,” UHM urges in its latest bulletin while encouraging citizens to be “alert to symptoms of heat illness” and to wear “suitable clothing (light and light-coloured…)” to wear.
“Check that relatives, especially children and the elderly, are well,” advises the UHM, which does not, however, exclude the possibility that a few drops of rain will fall on the Haitian capital as well as other regions of Haiti, such as Grand-Anse and Nippes.
These rainy activities are due to the passage of a tropical wave in the Caribbean, indicates the UHM.
