The hips are heavily used on a daily basis, but also when playing sports. It is therefore not uncommon for them to suffer from a certain number of pains and injuries.

Thus, there are many causes that can explain the pain in this area. Find out which ones.

Hip pain: what are we talking about?

A hip pain can have several causes. Which is not surprising when we take a closer look at the composition of the hip: numerous bones, tendons and ligaments.

Regular athletes and people aged 50 to 65 years old are the people most affected by this pain.

The pain can be local, that is to say directly located at the hip or diffuse. In this case, it is located at the level of the buttock, knee or leg and radiates to the hip. It can be felt during exercise but also at rest. This can lead to painful walking that causes a limp, depending on the case.

The choice of treatment is made according to the pathology in question, identified by the healthcare professional during diagnosis.

Overwork or trauma: reasons for hip pain

Hip pain can be particularly debilitating, especially for simple movements such as walking, sitting or bending down.

So, this type of pain can have several causes, such as:

  • Overwork of the joint;
  • A sudden gesture;
  • A trauma ;
  • A degenerative pathology linked to aging;
  • A hip malformation.

Concerning the treatment, this depends on the cause of the problem. Trauma requires orthopedic or surgical treatment, depending on the severity of the fracture.

L’arthrosis does not require permanent treatment. It is possible to soothe the symptoms and delay the progression of the pathology. Hip prostheses are placed in the event of coxarthrosis (hip osteoarthritis) and for fractures.
