iciHaiti – Literature: The PM and the President of the Transitional Council at the “Livres en Folie” Fair

On Thursday, August 15, 2024, Prime Minister Garry Conille and Edgard Leblanc Jr., President of the Transitional Council, participated separately in the 30th edition of the “Livres en Folie” Fair, which took place at the Karibe Convention Center (Pétion ville).
The Head of Government expressed his satisfaction with those responsible and organizers of the largest literary event in Haiti.
“It is with great pleasure that I participate in this edition of Livres en Folie which brings together authors and readers from all four corners of the country to experience and keep alive the culture of books. […] I praise and welcome this initiative,” said Garry Conille adding “I realize, more than ever, the importance of such an event recalling the level of resilience and resistance of the Haitian population, the willingness of young people and thousands of families to get involved and participate in the emancipation of art and culture of good and beauty in Haiti” concluding “Thanks to the courage and leadership of the institutions involved in the creation of such events with national and international scope, this helps to restore the image of the country […] »
For his part, the President of the Transitional Council took the opportunity to congratulate Le Nouvelliste and its partners for this initiative, stressing that Livres en Folie is an essential platform for authors, publishers and readers, allowing them to celebrate culture and promote access to knowledge. He also encouraged the public to support local authors and to actively engage in promoting reading.
“Haitians want to start living again. They need spaces that can brighten this feeling despite the fact that the environment does not meet security needs. My presence aims to encourage all social activities in the country, but especially to support production and creation,” he said.
Furthermore, in an interview, the Canadian Ambassador to Haiti, André François Giroux, praised this “Livres en Folie” fair and recognized the appetite of Haitians for the resumption of cultural life.
