15/08/2024 10:24:48
Friday, August 16, 2024, taking advantage of his presence in the Dominican Republic for the inauguration ceremony of the re-elected President Luis Abinader, the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, known for his commitment to international solidarity, expressed his intention to go to Haiti to learn directly about the situation and explore possible avenues of collaboration.
However, the Haitian government, aware of the security challenges facing the country, recommended postponing the visit until conditions are more favorable.
The security crisis in Haiti, marked by high levels of violence and disorder, is a source of concern both regionally and internationally. Haitian authorities have indicated that they cannot guarantee the security necessary for a presidential visit, leading Petro to postpone his plan.
The Haitian Government thanked the Colombian President for his concern and expressed hope that in the near future, when the situation improves, the visit can take place.
