On Monday, August 26, 2024, the Ministry of National Education, through the management of the Education Executive Training Center and its technical and financial partners, launched a five-day training module review workshop (August 26 to 30) on risk and disaster management and post-disaster psychosocial support in schools.
Jean Misgaire Fanor, Director of the Education Executive Training Center, said the workshop aims to provide the Ministry with tools capable of ensuring the development of capacities and skills, capacity building and skills development of educational personnel with a view to promoting knowledge and expanding actions aimed at achieving specific objectives in terms of disaster risks and psychosocial support.
Tatiana Villegas, UNESCO Representative in Haiti noted the critical importance of the workshop in transforming education in Haiti, stressing that major natural hazards have a significant impact on the education sector. She said it is imperative to move from a reaction to disasters to a proactive approach in these terms: Predict, Anticipate and Prepare Effectively.
Yves Roblin, the Director General of the Ministry, believes that this workshop is crucial for the start of the school year (2024-2025). According to Roblin, this workshop plays a fundamental role in the development of school textbooks on risk and disaster management and psychosocial support for children in vulnerable situations, given the weakening of the country by the violence of armed gangs.
