If in the Haitian capital the mobilization against Prime Minister Ariel Henry is completely weakening, this is not the case for certain provincial towns. In Ouanaminthe, for example, several thousand people took to the streets yesterday Saturday to demand the departure of Prime Minister Ariel Henry. Mostly wearing EDE party jerseys, the demonstrators walked through various streets of the city while making hostile remarks against the current tenant of the prime minister’s office whose record they consider catastrophic.
According to them, Ariel Henry must free the spaces of power “illegally occupied” since February 7. They highlight the agreement of December 21 providing for the end of the interim period on February 7, 2024.
This Sunday in Les Cayes a demonstration at the initiative of the Mobilization Table, a structure bringing together the same political parties and other personalities is already in the streets.
In Port-au-Prince, most of the demonstrations launched by EDE and Pitit Dessalines have not been able to bring together large crowds since February 7. They were all dispersed by the police with tear gas.
Pitit Dessalines leader Jean Charles plans to lead a demonstration in front of the American embassy to force the United States to release Ariel Henry.
