The United States Ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS), Francisco Mora, raised this Thursday the possibility of adopting a resolution to continue supporting Haiti during the next UN General Assembly, scheduled from June 26 to 28 in Asunción.
During a press conference, Mora stressed that this resolution aims to support the Haitian nation, particularly in the areas of security and finance, by calling on the continent to take “urgent measures” to restore security and strengthen the ‘humanitarian aid.
“It is very likely that the General Assembly will adopt a resolution to continue supporting Haiti, not only on the security issue, but also on financial and monetary issues,” said Francisco Mora.
The text, currently being negotiated with member states, highlights the need for “inclusive dialogue” between all Haitians to improve the country’s political future and underlines the importance of technical assistance to strengthen capacity institutional power of Haiti in the face of criminal gangs.
