D-Day 1 for the grand opening of the Summer Olympic Games which will take place this year in Paris where a Haitian delegation, including several stars of the Haitian football team, was welcomed, Wednesday, at the Haitian embassy in France.
Present at the embassy, the president of the Haitian Olympic Committee, Doctor Hans Larsen, revealed that the Haitian participation, composed of 7 athletes, in the Paris Olympic Games, was achieved at the cost of enormous sacrifices.
“Our participation today was achieved almost by the sweat of our brows,” declared the Olympic president in his speech for the occasion.
According to Doctor Larsen, on a budget of 405 thousand US dollars, the Haitian Olympic Committee (COH) received, last Friday, aid of 10 million gourdes, equivalent to a little more than 74 thousand US dollars.
“I ask the Minister to change the paradigm that currently exists,” pleaded Doctor Larsen, who took the opportunity to thank the institutions, including the International Olympic Committee, which have enabled the COH to be “present on the international scene.”
Seven Haitian athletes will be present on the international scene in Paris.
