Two swimmers, two sprinters, a judoka, a gymnast and a boxer make up the Haitian athletes who will have to defend the Haitian bicolor at the Olympic Games which will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024 in Paris, France.
The Haitian Olympic Committee released on Sunday the official list of qualified Haitian athletes for the 23e Olympiad where Haiti will be represented in five (5) disciplines.
No football, the country’s top sport, no basketball, a discipline very popular in the country, no tennis either, a discipline followed closely in Haiti, especially with the tennis superstar of Haitian origin, Naomi Osaka.
On the other hand, Haiti will be on the swimming table with the recent gold medalist of the CCCAN 2024 swimming championship, Alexandre Grand Pierre who was brilliant in Monterey (Mexico) last June.
The 25-year-old swimmer will defend Haiti in the Breakstoke category while in the freestyle category, it is the youngest athlete in the Haitian delegation, Mayah Ruth Chouloute, who will go for a medal for Haiti.
Indeed, Chouloute, 14, is the youngest athlete in the Haitian delegation. She will be coached by former swimmer and first Haitian Olympic swimmer, Naomy Grand’Pierre, who knows very well the pressure, the stakes and the expectations of defending her country at the Olympic Games.
On the athletics side, Emélia Andréa Chatfield will show her talents in the 100 meters hurdles while Christopher Borzor will run in the 100 meters singles category. The duo will be coached by Joey Scott.
As for gymnastics, it is Lynnzee Elisse Brown who will wear the colors of Haiti at the Paris games. The 25-year-old athlete is the first Haitian gymnast who will compete in an edition of the Olympic games. A great opportunity that the gymnast says she is “honored” to have.
“I am honored to have been chosen to represent Haiti,” she told CBS News.
“We are trying to show everything that the Haitian people can do,” added the gymnast, who took the opportunity to thank her family for their unconditional support.
Kristina Coccia will be Lynnzee Elisse Brown’s coach in Paris.
Finally, Cédrick Bélony-Duiepre and Philippe Abel Métellus will represent Haiti respectively in the Boxing and Judo categories.
