United States President Joe Biden won a landslide victory in the Democratic primary in South Carolina on Saturday, marking the start of the party’s run for the November election and particularly assessing the level of enthusiasm among the Afro-American community. -American.

With nearly 96.2% of the votes after the almost complete count, Biden far outperformed his two main rivals, self-help author Marianne Williamson (2.1%) and Minnesota Representative Dean Phillips (1. 7%).

In a statement, Biden said the victory in South Carolina, where his campaign was revived during the 2020 primaries, puts him “back on track” to win the presidency and oust former President Donald Trump (2017- 2021) a “loser” again.

Although Biden was not in South Carolina to celebrate the victory, he visited three African-American community churches in the state over the past month, and his campaign spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on ads on radio and television to reach black voters.

With victory assured, Biden’s real challenge was demonstrating his ability to mobilize the party’s base, particularly the African-American community, which makes up 60% of the Democratic electorate in South Carolina. In this context, particular attention was paid to the results of participation. With the count almost complete, 131,315 people voted during election day, representing a 75% decrease compared to 2020, when 539,263 people participated.
